2nd Annual Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

Friday, March 31, 1-7 PM
Hayden Library C-41

ASU Library is co-sponsoring the wikipedia edit-a-thon in conjunction with Open Education Week, emphasizing OER or open education resources like Wikipedia. We will offer group training sessions at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm. If you arrive at another time, one of us will help train you individually. Students, faculty, researchers, staff, and the community are all welcome!

The 2nd Annual Art + Feminism Wikipedia edit-a-thon is a joint event sponsored by the School of Art, and ASU Library, as part of the Art+Feminism DIY campaign to improve coverage on feminism and the arts on Wikipedia, and also encourage female editorship.

Attendees will be introduced to editing Wikipedia pages, and guided on editing women and art Wikipedia entries, either updating a current Wikipedia page, or adding a new Wikipedia entry. You don’t need to be an expert, all you need is an interest and willingness to share your knowledge. The event will be catered, and computers will be provided.

RSVP to attend - all levels of expertise are welcome.

Questions?  Contact Mimmo Bonanni (Social Sciences Librarian); Meredith Drum (School of Art), or Anali Perry, Scholarly Communications Librarian.

Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon Meetup

Friday, March 18
1:00 - 8:00 PM
Hayden Library room C41 (entrance level)

Please join us for a fun, inclusive, one-day event that brings together diverse communities to create and improve Wikipedia articles related to women in the arts. Despite its wide reach, Wikipedia suffers from a severe gender imbalance: since most editors are men, articles conform to men's interests and perspectives. In an effort to change this, we are gathering diverse women and allies together to celebrate women's cultural achievements.

No Wikipedia editing experience necessary; tutoring will be provided for Wikipedia newcomers as needed throughout the event.

Light refreshments will be served.

Optional steps to get started:

The ASU Library acknowledges the twenty-three Native Nations that have inhabited this land for centuries. Arizona State University's four campuses are located in the Salt River Valley on ancestral territories of Indigenous peoples, including the Akimel O’odham (Pima) and Pee Posh (Maricopa) Indian Communities, whose care and keeping of these lands allows us to be here today. ASU Library acknowledges the sovereignty of these nations and seeks to foster an environment of success and possibility for Native American students and patrons. We are advocates for the incorporation of Indigenous knowledge systems and research methodologies within contemporary library practice. ASU Library welcomes members of the Akimel O’odham and Pee Posh, and all Native nations to the Library.
