Using ArtStor at ASU

A guide to Artstor--quality art images for your research

One Page Display

This option is available only when you have opened an image group with more than 15 thumbnails. From the “Display Options” tab, select “Display image group on single page”. This will bring up a new version of the thumbnail page which will display a thumbnail for every image in the group, but no image data. Hence, rather than having to navigate through pages of images, you will be able to view thumbnails of all the images in your group on a single page. You can also re-order your thumbnails in this mode by dragging and dropping.

Changing Image Order

Once you have created an image group, you can rearrange your images by dragging and dropping. The thumbnails are reordered on the screen through a “drag and replace” functionality.

  • Click and drag a thumbnail over the image you wish to replace.
  • Release the mouse.

The moved thumbnail will appear in the position of the replaced thumbnail. The replaced thumbnail will move over to the right or left.

Printing Image Groups

The Image Group print preview function allows you to review and print an entire Image Group. This format offers thumbnail copies of the images in the group with choices for displaying the ARTstor data record, the Instructor Commentary, or any Personal Notes associated with the images. The following instructions are excerpted from the ARTstor Help wiki:

  1. Open an image group.
  2. Go to the ARTstor navigation menu and click Share > Print image group > and select:
    • Full record: prints full ARTstor data records
    • Brief record with commentary: prints brief object information (Creator, Title, Date), along with any instructor's commentary
    • Brief record with personal notes: prints brief object information (Creator, Title, Date), along with any personal notes
  3. A new, print-ready browser window will open, containing a header with the title of your group, followed by thumbnails of the images accompanied by their data records.
  4. Go to your web browser's File toolbar menu and select the Print option. You may also use the Ctrl- (orimage:Key command.jpg) P keyboard shortcut.

Hayden Library

The ASU Library acknowledges the twenty-three Native Nations that have inhabited this land for centuries. Arizona State University's four campuses are located in the Salt River Valley on ancestral territories of Indigenous peoples, including the Akimel O’odham (Pima) and Pee Posh (Maricopa) Indian Communities, whose care and keeping of these lands allows us to be here today. ASU Library acknowledges the sovereignty of these nations and seeks to foster an environment of success and possibility for Native American students and patrons. We are advocates for the incorporation of Indigenous knowledge systems and research methodologies within contemporary library practice. ASU Library welcomes members of the Akimel O’odham and Pee Posh, and all Native nations to the Library.
