SOC 352: Social Change  

The goal of this project is to develop a wiki about the role of the Chinese telecom manufacturers Huawei and ZTE in various African countries.  These two companies are involved in many, but not all, African countries.

I have divided the class into groups of 3 and assigned each group an African country (you can find the country you have been assigned to by looking at what group you are part of under the group pages tab under the communications tab).

You will be responsible for building out the country stub for the country your group is assigned to.

First go to Wikipedia and do a search on the "your country name".   If the country is French or Portuagese speaking, you will want to try out Google's language tools (on right side of the main google home page).

also do a Wikipedia search on Huawei and ZTE to learn about these countries.  Also go to my blog: www.oresearch.net to learn more about some of the developments Huawei has been involved in in the past year.

Then go to the two companies websites:

ZTE  http://wwwen.zte.com.cn/ (In particular see http://wwwen.zte.com.cn/main/about/Global%20Sales%20Offices/Representative%20offices/ABCD/index.shtml?catalogId=13581 to see whether ZTE has an office in your designated country)

Huawei: http://www.Huawei.com  (in particular see http://www.huawei.com/about/officeList.do to see if Huawei has an office%

Then go to the web and do a search on:

"Huawei" and "the name of your country".   Pull out information and websites that you want to use in your wiki.

"ZTE" and the "name of your country"  Pull out information that you want to use in your wiki entry.

Then do a search in the databases listed under the sources tab in this LibGuide:

Make sure to search the newspapers database (Access World News) and also Lexis Nexis.

Put together the information you found under that country's tab in the class Wiki.  If you do not find anything, then put on the country stub.  "We have been unable to find information on Huawei and ZTE in this country."
