ASU Library subscribess a few databases that can help you create a list of target companies. Each of the following databases allows you to create your list by limiting by industry and location. From here, you may also be able to limit your search even further by size, revenues, or by using keywords.
Use the Advanced Search feature in Mergent Intellect to create your target list of companies. Refine your list by Industry, Company Location, Size, or other limiters. Target company lists can be exported.
Orbis covers over 76 million public and private global companies. Screen for companies based on geography, financial performance, industry, number of employees, etc. Select "All Companies" from the bottom of the landing screen, and then choose your limiters to compile a company list.
Use the attached worksheet to keep track of your company searches, and track prospective employers.
Using Industry Codes
Searchers will notice that many of the ASU Library databases use industry codes (NAICS, SIC, NACE) to help limit and target a company search.
"The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is the standard used by Federal statistical agencies in classifying business establishments for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and publishing statistical data related to the U.S. business economy" (US Census Bureau).
