Guide to Setting Up and Using RefWorks

RefWorks is a free tool that will store citations for you and create bibliographies in dozens of styles including APA and MLA. To get started sign up for a free account at http://lib.asu.edu/help/refworks and take a look at the tutorials inside of RefWorks under the Help drop down menu.

 

Write and Cite

Write and Cite is a plug in that works inside of Microsoft Office and allows you to seamlessly add in-text citations to your papers from RefWorks and create a works cited page.

To get started you will need to download and install the plug-in, which can be found in RefWorks. Go to the Tools drop down menu and select Write and Cite. You can also get help using Write and Cite under the Help drop down menu. Also see the RefWorks Library Guide .

To use Write and Cite off campus you will need to do the following on your machine:

 Windows Users:

  • From the Start Menu select Programs and RefWorks.

  • Select the WNC Proxy Configuration Utility.  

  • Enter the Proxy Server URL followed by url=https://www-refworks-com.ezproxy1.lib.asu.edu/Refworks/?WNC=true.  

  •  Click OK.

Mac Users:

  • Activate Write-N-Cite.

  • Select Preferences from the Write-N-Cite menu .

  • Select the Proxy option and enter the Proxy Server URL followed by url=https://www-refworks-com.ezproxy1.lib.asu.edu/Refworks/?WNC=true.
