EEE 598: Multimedia/Qos

Best library and internet resources plus literature searching techniques for your assignment.

Introduction

Don't start a project without first gathering the tools you'll need.  For the first three tools mentioned below, you'll access them via the Libraries home page under "My Accounts"

http://lib.asu.edu

Library Account

Your library account shows your contact information and what items you have checked out and on hold.  If you have fines accumulated this will be shown, too.

Before you start a literature review make sure your library account is clear of fines.  If not, you may not be allowed to check out more books nor renew books you already have.

All library notices are sent via email to your "asu.edu" address; if you prefer to receive email at a different address make sure you have forwarded your asu.edu correctly.  Also, make sure that your spam filter allows the library email to come through.

For questions or problems with your account, contact our Access Services unit at circ@asu.edu or 480-965-2600 (Noble) or 480-965-3605 (Hayden).

Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery (ILLiad) Account

The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service obtains books and journal articles not available in the ASU Library.  You need to activate your "ILLiad" account before you can start requesting items via this service.  To activate, on the ILLiad login screen, click on the red, first time users link and follow the instructions.

When you are in library databases, the yellow, "Get It @ ASU" button gives you a link (option #2) to request the item via the ILL service whenever the item is not available online from the ASU Library - clicking on this link takes you to the Illiad login screen, once you login the computer will automatically fill in the form for you; check for errors and then click submit.

Once an item has been received we'll notify you by email that it's available:

  • if it's a print item, pick it up at the Information Desk in the library you specified
  • if it's a article or other short item, it will be scanned and available within your account for 60 days

For problems with Interlibrary Loan, contact our Interlibrary Loan staff directly at 480-965-3282 or ASU-ILL@asu.edu.

Keeping Track

You'll be searching many databases multiple times and with different search strategies - keeping track of what you need to do as well as what you've already done will eliminate redundancies and prevent missing steps.  Don't forget to keep track of alerts/feeds/saved searches as well.

Use what ever "keeping track" method works best for you - paper or software.

The ASU Library acknowledges the twenty-three Native Nations that have inhabited this land for centuries. Arizona State University's four campuses are located in the Salt River Valley on ancestral territories of Indigenous peoples, including the Akimel O’odham (Pima) and Pee Posh (Maricopa) Indian Communities, whose care and keeping of these lands allows us to be here today. ASU Library acknowledges the sovereignty of these nations and seeks to foster an environment of success and possibility for Native American students and patrons. We are advocates for the incorporation of Indigenous knowledge systems and research methodologies within contemporary library practice. ASU Library welcomes members of the Akimel O’odham and Pee Posh, and all Native nations to the Library.
