Industry Standards: Getting Started

The main Standards Collection is located in the Noble Library (Tempe Campus), on the 1st floor, in the northeast corner of the building.  Also, some standards are available online, in the Architecture and Design and the Arts Library (Tempe Campus), or the Polytechnic Campus library; this guide indicates when a standard is located outside of the Noble Library.  

To determine if the standard you need is available in the ASU Library's collection:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the left-hand column of this page, click on the appropriate letter for the issuing organization's acronymn. 
     
  2. Once on the page for that letter, click on the gray TAB (across the top) for the organization.  
     
    For example, if the standard is labled "IEC 60076-7 2005", click on the letter "I" in the left column; when you are on the "I" page, click on the TAB for "IEC". 
    • If your standard does not have an organization's acronym in the number, assume it is an ANSI (American National Standards Institute) standard.
      Example: A13.1 2007, look under ANSI

       
    • If the standard is labeled as sponsored by both ANSI and another organization, it will be listed under the other organization.
      Example: ANSI/SMPTE 300, look under SMPTE

Please note: the ASU Library's standards collection is intended for the use of ASU faculty, staff and students.  Individuals not affiliated with ASU who live in the Phoenix metropolitan area are welcome to come to the Noble Library on the Tempe campus to view the standards.   Items in the collection are not available for checkout or loan to other libraries; because of copyright restrictions, we do not provide photocopies or scanned copies for non-ASU individuals who are unable to come to Noble Library.
