Where and When?

Distinctive Collections and Archives books and manuscripts formerly accessible at the Luhrs Reading Room and formerly housed in Hayden Library are currently stored in an offsite storage facility, but will remain accessible during the Hayden Library renovation, to be completed in 2020.

Due to the relocation of these collections, all requests to view materials must be made at least five (5) business days in advance to allow for identification and movement of items. Items can be requested via Ask an Archivist

Scheduled visits are subject to availability of staff and reading rooms on the Tempe, West and Polytechnic campuses. Archival specialists will make every effort to get researchers the materials they need from the library’s Distinctive Collections and Archives.

Access Policies and Restrictions

We strive to make our collections as open and accessible as possible. Some archival collections include fragile materials or sensitive information protected by federal and state privacy laws. Individual use agreements protect the privacy of individuals represented in our collections. Help us keep our collections as open as possible and respect others by completing and abiding by our use agreements and access policies!

Did You Know?

While the bills to establish ASU and UA were ratified by the 13th Arizona Territorial Assembly on the same day in 1885, ASU (then known as the Arizona Territorial Normal School) was the first Arizona institution of higher education to open for business in February 1886!
