Finding Books

ASU Library has different types of books, including scholarly works, research, fiction, graphic novels, theatrical works, children's books. Use OneSearch (select ASU Library Catalog) and limit your results to specific subject and format, or start your search with a specific subject (see below).

Search by Subject (print and electronic books): This Library of Congress Subject Headings list is for searching the ASU Library Catalog for books, DVDs, journals, etc. Use the slider on the right-hand side to narrow down the results.

Books in your public library

If you like to find books in your local public library, use WorldCat to locate them. For example, the ASU Library has only one print copy of Holocaust Literature: an Encyclopedia of Writers and their Work (edited by S. Lillian Kremer, Routledge, 2003). 

  1. Go to WorldCat (World Catalog = a union catalog containing thousands of library catalogs).
  2. Use the advanced search, set your Subject, type "Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945), in literature" (quotation marks unneeded).
  3. Under Limit to Language, select English.
  4. Under Limit type, select Books. 
  5. Under Subtype limits, select "not juvenile" (unless you are interested in Children's or YA fiction).
  6. If you have your public library code, insert it under Limit availability to / Library Code (ask your library, or click find codes...).

Films and Streaming Videos

ASU Library subscribes to several streaming video databases, listed on the Steaming Video and Film library guides. 

Films on Demand: May be searched by titles, producers, and other categories.

  • Type in "Holocaust" as keyword, then use the Filter Options button (in red) to search All Types. You can select Newsreel or Primary Source; Documentary Film; Educational Video; etc. and adjust the Format to either Full Titles, Segments, or Series. 

 

American History in Video Collections, direct links to films about the topic of "Holocaust, 1939–1945":

USHMM Film, Audio, and Video files: limit your search to "film, audio, and video" (historical films, testimonies, documentaries, music, and more).

Video segments are also available on the YIVO Encyclopedia of Jews in Eastern Europe (2008)
