Overview of Academic Integrity
Description: Welcome to the Academic Integrity at ASU tutorial! This tutorial is designed to help you learn what academic integrity is, and the importance of academic integrity for students in the community of learners, whether it is in your courses, degree program, or at ASU in general. Resources and strategies to help you uphold academic honesty are also provided.
Learning Objectives students will learn in this tutorial:
- Describe what it means to act with academic integrity at ASU.
- Identify and apply the principles of academic integrity — including honesty, trust, fairness, respect and responsibility — in the context of using generative AI tools.
- Identify the reasons why academic integrity is important to a community of scholars.
- Evaluate the appropriateness of using generative AI as a research and thought partner for various academic tasks, and understand its limitations and potential biases.
- Describe the five types of academic integrity violations at ASU.
- Recognize the potential misuse of generative AI in academic settings, such as plagiarism, unauthorized use or collaboration, and misrepresentation of AI-generated content as original work.
- Distinguish between do's and don'ts of academic integrity at ASU.
- Recognize the consequences of academic dishonesty.
- Interpret institutional policies and course guidelines regarding the use of AI tools in academic work, understanding the consequences of violations.
- Select useful resources and strategies for practicing academic integrity.

For this assignment, you will be required to complete the Academic Integrity LibLesson, developed by the ASU Library! This tutorial is designed to help you learn what academic integrity is, as well as the importance of academic integrity in a community of learners — whether it is in your courses, degree program or at ASU in general. To complete the assignment, you will need to:
- Self-enroll in the course using this link: https://canvas.asu.edu/enroll/3886NY
- Complete the modules.
- Complete the quiz with a 90% or higher.
- Download your badge and save as a PDF.
- Submit your badge as a PDF to the 'Academic Integrity Badge Submission' assignment as proof of completion and participation.
Create an assignment for students to submit the badge to your class.
- Go to assignment, Create new.
- Assignment name
- Academic Integrity Badge Submission
- Add the following text as the description:
- After reviewing the Academic Integrity tutorial in its entirety, you will need to complete a 10-question quiz with a score of at least 90% to receive a passing grade. After you receive a 90% or higher on the quiz, download the badge as directed on the syllabus and submit it.
- Display grade as Complete/Incomplete or as Points depending on how you wish to grade the assignment.
- Submission type 'Online'
- Online Entry Options 'File Uploads'
- Students should submit their badge as a PDF.
- Save.
After students submit their badge, you will want to verify it is correct. The image below is what the certificate should look like. It includes the badge title, the student's name, their ASUrite email, and the date of completion.
