Overview of the Searching for Articles and Sources Tutorial
Description: As you begin college-level research, you’ll have access to a wide range of information sources (from books and academic journal articles to social media posts), each with unique qualities. This tutorial is designed to help you understand the differences between these sources, so you can make informed choices based on what best supports your research. You’ll also be introduced to the information timeline. This tool shows how different sources become available over time, helping you determine what’s accessible for your topic and how that may shape your research decisions. Lastly, you’ll learn where to find help whenever you need it.
At the end of the tutorial, students will be able to:
- Define basic terms and definitions for sources that your assignment may require.
- Identify what types of sources are appropriate for your topic using the information timeline.
- Locate information on your topic that aligns with your assignment.
- Recall the different ways to find and organize your sources.
- Recognize where to get help when struggling to find sources.
