ASU Library LibLessons

ASU Library LibLessons are digital credentials that allow faculty to integrate library tutorials into their classes.

Overview of the Choosing a Topic with Background Research Tutorial

Description: This tutorial will help elevate your research skills by teaching you a process that will help you understand your assignment, use background information, narrow your topic idea, and prepare for research. Most importantly, this tutorial will teach that you're not alone when you research, that you have support available to help you every step of the way!

At the end of the tutorial, students will be able to:

  1. Identify assignment requirements for starting your project.
  2. Recognize how to use different sources to brainstorm ideas for selecting your topic.
  3. Locate background information on your topic to develop your understanding.
  4. Identify the specific focus of your topic and relate it back to the assignment requirements.
